Important Notice Regarding Neonpotato (Nelson Jenkins)

Postby k_gilmore » Tue Oct 28, 2008 12:11 am

To be short, my friend and fellow corpser Nelson passed away on Saturday evening, his heart failed him as he slept.

I don't have much to say on the matter that hasn't been said elsewhere, nor the urge or emotional capability to so again, so for those who would like to read, here is a terribly unworthy attempt at final regards:

I apologize for being the bearer of bad news.

His works here will stand tribute to his passions, and hopefully he can get a cheap copy of photoshop in the afterlife.
Words erupt violently,
deflower white paper.
Poets duel silently
to prove who best rapes her.

Words sprung from cannon dire:
'los palabras fuegos'
and the poem sired:
blossoms a carmine rose.

Nelson Jenkins, 19, a Coleg Llandrillo student from Valley Road, Llanfairfechan, died of an overwhelming meningitis infection on Saturday night.

Nelson’s mother Judith told the North Wales Weekly News: "The infection struck incredibly quickly. We’d had a fantastic day at Conwy Food Festival. He had no idea what was going to happen, he just died in his sleep that night. It was a tragic, short way for a young man with a life so full to go.

"Nelson was a great chemist and won a prize last year in a schools analyst competition for his work. Chemistry was an aspect of his life he really loved and he was a brilliant thinker. He was also involved with morris dancing and was a great cook.

"Nelson was always late for everything and the laziest person you could meet! He was a one-off who was growing into a very nice young man."

His father Tom said how much Nelson cared for his family: "He has one sister, Hazel, aged just five months, and four brothers – Samuel, six, Peter, three, Philip, 17, and Murray, 13 – who he loved very much. Everyone, including his stepmother Rowan, is missing him dreadfully.

"He had complained of feeling a little unwell in the day but didn’t think it was anything to worry about. After watching a film with his brother, he went to sleep and just never woke up.

"Nelson had a huge number of friends and was such a gentle guy. He was generally very fit and was planning a trip to Canada.

"Nelson made a big impression on people and was a very intelligent, articulate young man destined to go on and reach his potential."

Tom has opened a tribute fund for Nelson with the Meningitis Trust. Nelson’s life will be celebrated at Ysgol Pant-yr-Rhedyn on Saturday at 2pm followed by refreshments at the Church Institute.

Christine Hughes from Meningitis Trust said: "We were saddened to hear another young life has been lost to meningitis. It is vital people are aware of the signs and symptoms which can easily be mistaken for flu, and include fever, headache, stiff neck, dislike of bright light, drowsiness, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, confusion and in some cases a rash that does not fade under pressure."

I hope this resolves itself as a horrible Halloween joke.
But if not, thank you NEONPOTATO, your mad corpse skills inspired.

The article I posted was from the local paper where Nelson lived.

It is quite true.

Please consider making a donation to the meningitis trust fund in Nelson's name at http://www.meningitis-trust.org/donation/Donate-now.html.

Note to U.S. people: To find the pounds to dollars conversion rate, type "pounds to U.S. dollars" into Google. Right now it says "1 British pound = 1.5832 U.S. dollars," though that is subject to change. This should work with other conversions too.

I believe that you can fill out the form with the number of pounds you wish to donate (bearing in mind how that's different from the number of dollars you wish to donate) and that your credit card company or bank will take care of the conversion. I also think you can write a U.S. check and send it to one of the addresses at http://www.meningitis-trust.org/donation/Donate-by-Post.html. However, I am not 100% sure about these things, and have written the foundation to ask. Will post updates as I find out more.

UPDATE from Meningitis Trust: Yes you should be able to make a donation using the donation form as described in your email. Unfortunately the website using UK £, so you will need to work out how much you would like to donate in £ sterling Your credit/debit card company will then work out how much the equivalent is in US$ and debit your card accordingly. Please note that your credit/debit card company may take an additional charge for converting US$ into UK £.

Apparently, you can also use bank debit card online, though I think this many be for UK donations only.

Don't forget to add "Nelson Jenkins" into the line where it asks if you are donating in someone's name.

I'd missed this until tonight. I've been so wrapped up in helping to elect our nation's future that I just haven't been around for awhile.

I visited (with my wife and daughter) Neon-Nelson's neck of the woods two years ago (Conwy castle was magnificent) and drove down the impossibly narrow Welsh roads. Nelson was younger than said daughter. We must have passed nearby while there. Who knows, I may have met him in Llandudno at night when I was out photographing the fine young hoodlum wannabees after dark.
